Shazam! Fury of the Gods is intense and action-packed, but one key decision will leave many wondering about the character’s future.
Warning! The following contains spoilers! Fury of the Gods is now in theaters
Shazam! In Shazam! However, Billy is unable to defeat the Daughters of Atlas because he becomes his magical form (played brilliantly by Zachary Levi). They want to reclaim magic for their species, reforge Shazam’s team, and de-power Billy’s siblings.
Billy is not confident without the Marvel Family. He gets some help when Helen Mirren’s Hespera (and Rachel Zegler) turn on Lucy Liu’s Kalypso. This is not an endorsement of her attempt to remake the Realm of the Gods. It leads to a surprising finale, filled with death, and an odd conclusion that muddies DC Universe’s future movies.

Shazam! 2 Kills Kalypso, Billy
Billy convinces Hespera, lowering the shield around Philly. He also boxed Kalypso and her dragon. Shazam’s staff is then taken back by Billy, who uses it as an electric bomb. Kalypso’s dragon and Kalypso die. But the same fate happens to Hesperia and all the other creatures that have been created to devastate the planet. The explosion kills Billy and drains him, leaving his mortal form on the Philly field. It’s a sad ending, similar to Batman against Superman: Dawn of Justice’s fight against Doomsday.
The Marvel Family learns how much family matters from it, having revealed to their parents the truth about their powers. Because of his abandonment issues, Billy urged them to remain together throughout Fury of the Gods. He was never able to forgive his parents for abandoning him. Therefore, he decided that they should remain together and give up their jobs and schools in favor of staying with their adoptive parents. The siblings thought it was ridiculous, but they have come to understand how Freddy and Freddy filled the big hole in their lives. Freddy has been left crying after taking his brother as his own.

Shazam! 2 Resurrects Billy and Raises a DCU Question
The family buries Billy. Although it would have been a sad way to go, it fits in with the DCU slate of movies in which James Gunn and Peter Safran seem to be moving on from their character. Shazam has not been mentioned for any future projects. However, the creative waters get muddy when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman appears. She’s the last God around so she reboots staff to allow it to resurrect Billy. After he smote her, she leaves him with a smile and a desire to be with her.
Anthea rebuilds her kingdom while Freddy is with her on Earth. Shazam is given a makeover and goes around the world to learn about people. As the household remains united, the ending suggests a sequel. However, it is not known what directives were passed after DC’s changes. Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman were replaced by Gadot’s Diana Of Themyscira. Even Dwayne John’s Black Adam was apparently canned.

It should make fans wonder if Billy is part of Gunn’s vision. This is particularly true when supernatural films such as Creature Commanderos or Swamp Thing have been in the works. this could serve as an abrupt end to Billy’s story. The Fury of the Gods after-credits scenes hint at a potential team-up, but it only adds to the character’s uncertainty.
