In 2023, the current story of the Guardians within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Director and writer James Gunn, who was the director of the previous two installments, revealed in an interview with the media on December 20, 2022 that he approached the project with a sense of the expectations low for the third film of any trilogy.

He added, “I can count on one hand the number third episodes that are worth watching in a trilogy.” “Basically, there’s the Before Sunriseseries. Lord of the Rings. Spider-Man. “But there aren’t too many thirds.” He also said that it took him longer him to write Vol. 3 than he did the first two Guardians films and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. He also stated that it was worth it to finish the story.

James Gunn’s Expectations for GOTG Vol. 3

Gunn has previously talked about his ideas for the tone of the third Guardians movie and said that “the third movie in most trilogies sucks.” According to the director the film’s coming out is “so large and dark and distinct from what the public might think it would be.” Although he’s aware that trilogy swan songs tend to be disappointing but he added the caveat “not necessarily.”

Gunn He was appointed recently as co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran, stated previously that he was ready to leave behind the MCU following his final guardians episode. “I feel very comfortable. I feel really good. “We did the job,” he said. “I believe that Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialwas was a small amount of fun that the Guardians needed to have an aperitif prior to Volume 3, which is a huge film. I had a plan from the very beginning.”

The official synopsis for Vol. The eponymous team will “look somewhat different,” as Chris Pratt the Star-Lord’s Peter Quill, still deals with “the death of Gamora.” He will also be required to gather the team for an upcoming mission that will see the Guardians protecting not just the entire universe, but one of their own. In the synopsis, should this mission fail, “it may lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
